Workplace clichés have become the elephant in the room, popping up every time we reach out or touch base. When we have too much on our plates, we don’t have the bandwidth to take a helicopter view of these annoying—and overused—phrases. Yes, some of these phrases felt like game-changers when they first entered the lexicon—but with all due respect, we’re no longer thinking outside of the box when we ping someone and ask them to keep their eye on the ball. These common phrases may feel like best practices, but we’re actually throwing language under the bus while believing we’re getting more bang for our buck.
