The universe existed long before humanity came onto the scene, and it will last far beyond us, as illustrated by this extremely comprehensive infographic by Slovakian designer and artist Martin Vargic. The timeline begins at the Big Bang, through the early universe, the prehistoric era, a blink-and-you-miss-it section for recorded history, and then our universe’s slow and inevitable death.
“I hope that it will help the general public to understand the massive timescales of the natural history, to learn more about the past and the future of our solar system and the universe and to increase the public interest about science and astronomy,” Vargic told The Huffington Post.
While we obviously can’t be sure of what will happen after we’re gone (and plenty of the past is debatable as well), Vargic claims to have based the infographic on many different scientific journals and studies. Take a look for yourself, if you’re not prone to existential crises.
