MANILA, Philippines – Filipinos tend to put others before themselves, such as when they prioritize the needs of their family. It’s why medical check ups are not always on the top of the list.

We don’t think much of it, but everyday we are exposed to harmful gases and chemicals that may affect our lungs. In and out of the office, we are exposed to second hand cigarette smoke and emissions from vehicles, for instance.

But not many Filipinos are aware of a disease that is among the 10 leading causes of death in the Philippines.

COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is something that’s not easily diagnosed. Its symptoms are not as distinct, which is why individuals are often caught off guard once they learn that they do have it.
