With the rise of social networking sites Google has started to take social sharing signals into account when ranking your website.
On Twitter they look at how many tweets and retweets a URL has received and the authority of the accounts tweeting those links. For Facebook and Google plus they look at how many +1’s and likes a URL receives and likewise for the other sites like Pinterest and LinkedIn.
