What Does ‘100 Calories On A Plate’ Actually Look Like?

Calorie counting is widely considered to be one of the most effective weight-loss methods. But what does 100 calories actually look like on a plate? Without having a food scale handy it can be pretty difficult to tell! This in-depth infographic shows the amount of grub you get in a 100-calorie serving across all major food groups, from grains to vegetables.

This infographic comes from the online dieting resource Sparkpeople. It shows what an average 100-calorie serving looks like depending on the food being ingested. As you can see, certain fruits and vegies provide the biggest portion sizes, with ham and turkey also giving bang-for-buck too. Unsurprisingly, cheeses are best avoided if you’re trying to keep your kilojoules down.

“Portion control is a crucial part of the weight-loss process, but it’s not always convenient to weigh everything you eat,” the Sparkpeople blog explains. “Instead, you can learn how to eyeball portions of common foods so you’ll know about how many calories you’re eating. You might also be surprised to see how much or how little of certain foods you can eat while consuming the same number of calories.”
